One of the things that should be washed on a regular basis to avoid greater costs later are the tubes of your heat exchanger, if you have one.
With garden swimming pools becoming more and more popular, it's essential to take care of the water heating system. The tubes have to be washed and cleaned on a regular basis, to prevent over heating and the failure of the engines which of course would lead to avoidable costs.
The causes of the dirt inside the tubes are mainly the water itself becoming dirty and the growth of algae.
Although I recommend having a professional to watch your entire system every 3 months, you can improve the health of the system by doing some simple cleaning routines every now and then. Depending on the size of your pool, and thus the amount of water it can hold, the time frame for these operation can vary from 2-3 weeks.
So now let's see some basic tips when it comes to cleaning evaporator coils tubes:
Firstly, of course, you need to remove the tubes from the system they are attached. Then, remove any loose material that might be at the ends. This way you'll avoid unnecessary pushing of any material inside the tube.
After that, try to resist the temptation of water jetting it immediately. This is one of the mistakes people make when cleaning heat exchanger tubes. Keeping it dry, remove any loose material that might be inside of it. Brushing can be an excellent solution for this. Use a nylon bristles brush while doing this.
After brushing, it's time for scraping. Use a scraper of a material that is not as hard or harder that the tube themselves. This will avoid damaging them. Scraping the inside of the tube will remove anything that is adhering to the walls but not loose enough to be removed with the brushing, debris mainly.
Then it's time for the water jetting, probably the funniest part! This is easy to explain. Just use a water jet powerful enough to remove all the debris and things that might have remained attached after the scraping and brushing.
Finally, you can use chemicals to remove calcium deposits and oily substances. Make sure that the product you buy is adequate for the surface of the tubes. Some products could damage them, which condenser coils would lead to higher costs. So make sure when you buy them to ask precisely whether the product is right for your tubes.
A homemade solution for these type of problems can be vinegar. Its properties are well known and is really some sort of all purposes magic ally when it comes to cleaning. So I recommend you try vinegar instead of harsh chemical products for oily substances. It could solve the problem making you save money and protecting the environment as well.
